So, building on my recent writs on having a sense of urgency and patience at the same time, my philosophy has expanded.
I am reminded of the word, ‘fartlek’, a loose Swedish translation for ‘speed-play’.
My philosophy? That life is fartlek.
You are mostly in control of the speed in which you live your life, but of course I can’t say completely, due to our external environment. The skill around this, is partly in aligning to the speed of exactly that.
Think of composure. The ability to do under pressure from time; to not be rushed. This is all just speed play.
I now refer to ‘la pausa’, if you are a football person you will understand. The ability to slow down the game’s pace, take control of the ball and assess the situation.
Now you can equally apply this to cooking – relax, take control of time when you are cooking for better outputs.
The timing is always one of the last things you develop when learning a skill.
You can rush, act in haste, or you can be in full control. Patience is a virtue, but only the learn-ed can bear it’s burden.
Fartlek.
